Wish I could love it. April 21, 2010 Eileen J. Powell (Belmont, N.H. United States) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was so anxious to get this after playing Dragon Age Origins. Dragon Age Origins was a game that I played at least six times and the story was so amazing. The characters so realistic that you felt part of the story. So, I expected the same of Awakening and had read that one or two of the characters in Origins would be in this game. Well, two were. My least favorite characters.
Awakening is good and certainly worth the price to own it. But, those of you who have played Origins will find a void in the interplay that you experienced with the characters in Origin. I think the writers had a golden opportunity to continue the original story with new adventures. If I hadn't played Origins first, maybe I would of enjoyed Awakenings.
All said, I can hardly wait for another game by this particular team of writers and developers. Their work is far superior to anything I have played before.
Prima Official Game Guide for Dragon Age: Origins Awakening April 19, 2010 Liberty A. Usera 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
There is very little substance to this guide. As for the walkthrough itself, it is manageable though not as intuitive as the DA: Origins Prima Game Guide and the side quests seemed dumped at the back of the book. The first 1/3rd of the book is stuff a gamer should know if they played DA: Origins, which is 1/3 fluff for gamers who have played through the first. In that case, and here is a money making opportunity, Prima could have sold the game guide for "newbies" and sold a different book for those who don't need the "How to create character". Of course the second book with a veteran gaming audience in mind would sell for 1/3 less the cost.
The Game guide by Prima would be more helpful if it would give the page number for side quests that occur during the main quest. It is frustrating to thumb through the book trying to find the side quest that is character driven.
This game guide for DA: Origins Awakening isn't as good as Prima's DA: Origins game guide because the first game of Dragon Age Origins was new and did require a lot of "how to" information though the Monster Encyclopedia is a little fluffy in both guides--just highlight the bosses.
Other game guides by Prima are top notch such as the Fallout 3 Game Guide, which DA: Origins Awakening SHOULD have been made like, so by no means should Prima be judged as a "bad" source for game guides based on DA: Origins Awakening.
Decent coverage April 18, 2010 HP 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its from the same author as the Origins guide, mainly same organization of topics.Little diference in the "right to the point" attitude because this is just an expansion game and most of the plot and mayor secrets are revealed as you go. The guide would be mainly, as the one for Origins, for those gamers that would like to achieve everything on a playthough. In overall the guide provides decent coverage of secrets, characters and multiple choises for those decisive momets in the game.
WASTE OF MONEY! April 18, 2010 Andrew Haas 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Not only is the guide for Awakening completely unnecessary, the one or two times I actually consulted the guide it didn't even mention anything about what I needed help with. DO NOT BUY; the guide DOES NOT help in any way! It is a complete waste of money!
Excellent Guide! April 11, 2010 Orca875 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This guide has all you need to breeze through the game with ease! Well written and very specific when dealing with main story quest and all side quests in game. The maps are well labled and help greatly when trying to complete all quests available in a timely order. If you have play many games like Dragon Age before dealing with several quests you know the major problem in doing the quests is, (A.) Finding out what to do to start the quest. and (B.) Where to go to complete the quest. These two things alone will have you running in circles for hours until you get lucky and run into the right character or spot in the game. With this guide you just go where you need to go and save yourself the headach!
